Consider It Correspondence and Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank have released “Take This Town” as a digital single. “Take This Town” was originally released  as part of the Hobo Nephews 2015 album American Shuffle

“Take This Town” is a rambling tale of realization, romance and desperation written by Teague Alexy and accentuated by Hobo Nephews rollicking Americana energy.

“Said I ran a few tolls, couple red lights.

They got my picture on satellite.

Tonight will be fond farewell,

Fore I’m off along the hard luck trail”

The hilarious “Take This Town” video was directed by Truvio and features Hobo Nephews alongside Albert Einstein and Al Capone among others.

“From the first cigar of Al Capone,

To the last cigarette of Sherlock Holmes.

Cops and robbers, friends and lovers,

From one end of Babylon to the other.”

“Take This Town” is available wherever digital  music is sold. American Shuffle vinyl available in our web store.

Old Number Four - Digital Single Now Streaming

Old Number Four, a song by Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank on Spotify

On April 22, 2015, Hobo Nephews Of Uncle Frank’s ode to quarterback Brett Favre, “Old Number Four”, was released as the opening track on the B side of their new album American Shuffle. CBS Green Bay (where Brett Favre played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers) were the first to rave about it.

CBS SPORTS

“Brett Favre has his own theme song...Old Number Four does a good job of summing up Favre's Ol’ Gunslinger mentality...As far as songs about retired NFL quarterbacks go, this is probably the best one.”

The Star Tribune in Minneapolis quoted the Hobo Nephews as having written the song while the state of Minnesota was in mourning following Favre and the Vikings loss in the 2010 NFC championship game, and released a video of Brett Favre photos as a Minnesota Viking along with audio of Old Number Four.

STAR TRIBUNE

“There are heroes and myth, mystic and lore,

But there’s never been nothing like Old Number Four...

You gave all you had, then you gave more.

They’ll never forget you Old Number Four”

By the following day, Old Number Four had been covered nationally by ESPN, NBC, FOX, CBS and more, including an epic rant on The Jim Rome Show.

“Brett Favre apparently has an anthem. A couple of dudes in a coffee shop have dropped a song for the old gunslinger. These guys call themselves Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, which to me is perfect for the OG because the last time we saw that dude, he looked like he had been stowing away on a freight train with his napsack living off some sardines. This song is about when Uncle Brett was seeing better days. The Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank were so moved by that immortal 2010 title game that they picked up their harmonicas and their guitars and they dropped a folk song about the folk hero.” - Jim Rome

Jim Rome, in his brazen way, hit it right on the head. One of a folk singer’s responsibilities is to sing folk songs about folk heroes. Woody Guthrie’s “Joe Dimaggio Done It Again,” or Bob Dylan’s “Catfish” are part of the tradition of American songwriters tapping into the romanticism we have with our sports heroes. Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank continue this folk music tradition on American Shuffle with Ian Alexy’s “Old Number Four” and Teague Alexy’s “The Day Billy Martin Quits.”

Old Number Four (Consider It Correspondence Records) is now available as a digital single wherever digital music is sold.

The first of Teague’s two official DHGF shows was alongside mandolinist Erik Berry to a sold out show at Cedar Lounge in Superior, WI. Teague and Erik played songs from their duo album Irish American alongside some Teague originals and a version of “Victory” by Erik’s band Trampled By Turtles.

Teague’s second #hgmf19 appearance was an early evening show with his band at Dr Robert Powless Cultural Center in downtown Duluth. The Duluth News Tribune recorded a version of Teague’s new, unreleased song “Captain.”

Teague closed out the final night of the festival singing and playing harmonica at The Rex with Jacob Mahon and The Salty Dogs. Two Jacob Mahon originals, Teague’s “Ol’ John Doe” and an encore of Parliament’s “Can You Get To That” closed a triumphant set.

Teague Alexy debuts new songs, new instrument

Teague Alexy debuted a new guitar and some new original material during an opening set for renowned singer/songwriter Haley Bonar at historic Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, MN.

”It’s a two-string cigar box style guitar built by Dave Lynas up on the hillside,” Teague told KUMD 103.3 Duluth after the show. “I met Dave at a jam session out in Holyoke and he invited me to come to his house in Duluth and try some of these strange guitars he was building. I didn’t know what to think of this one when I saw it, but I fell in love as soon as I put my hands on it. Even though I didn’t know how to play it, I could feel songs inside.”

Teague Alexy debuts new backing band Common Thread with October shows in Duluth and Minneapolis..

“I’ve been playing with these Duluth guys off and on and in different combinations for a few years,” says Teague. “They are getting so good, we had to give them a name.”

Teague Alexy & Common Thread will be playing Pizza Luce in Duluth, Minnesota on Friday, October 5 and Aster Cafe in Minneapolis Saturday, October 6.

Teague Alexy is probably best known for his Americana songwriting in the nationally-touring brothers duo Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank. Or, maybe you remember 2004 when Teague Alexy with Medication was filling dance floors around Minnesota, or you’ve heard that Teague is an award-winning author, or that he grew up in a South Jersey rap band.

Since Hobo Nephews 2015 album American Shuffle, Teague has extended his New Folklore album into an illustrated book called The New Folklore: Lyrical Tales for Dreamers & Thinkers with corresponding new music, created his storytelling podcast/column Wisecracks & Roadside Flats, released his Circuit Sessions album with Minnesota super-producers Actual Wolf and Steve Garrington (Low), and an album of primarily Irish traditional songs called Irish American with Trampled By Turtles mandolinist Erik Berry.

“All these excursions and side projects were advanced classes in my own travelling /singer/songwriter university,” says Teague with a smile. “I’m back to writing lots of songs and rocking with a Duluth band now.”

Ian Alexy covers Video Games

IAN ALEXY VG cover (2).jpg

I was taken with the song Video Games by Lana Del Rey the very first time it graced my ears. I was living in midtown Minneapolis and had a housemate and friend named Jerred who was a bit of a mess. He was always unemployed, his bedroom looked like the remnants of a hurricane, and he nearly burnt the house down everytime he tried to cook. We were renting from and living with a mutual friend, and every month when the rent was due, unable to pay, Jerred would disappear to the shelter of one of his girlfriends.

That was the thing with Jerred, he had beautiful girlfriends. Most of which were, young and stylish with enough mommy instinct to want to take care of him. On one particular humid summer evening, he asked me if I wanted to come meet him and his new girlfriend for beers at Leaning Tower of Pizza in uptown. Always curious to meet the next woman in Jerred’s life, I obliged.

I arrived at the same time they did and found Jerred standing outside smoking cigarettes with a tall redhead in a skin tight silver dress named Alysa. We sat at the bar and chatted while eating pizza and drinking beers. At one point in the conversation Alysa asked me, “have you ever heard Lana Del Rey?.” I had not. “She is my favorite artist,” she said . She put her earbuds in my ears and I was blown away by the smoky female voice, lush orchestration and visceral lyric. “Wow, I can see why.” I said.

A few days later I was pulling up to Pizza Luce’ in the Seward neighborhood when I heard the song again playing on the radio in my car.  Although I was ravenously hungry for a slice, I had to sit in the car and listen until the song was finished. I was even more affected than the first time. As soon as I got home I looked up the song online and began figuring out the chords on the guitar and writing down the lyrics.

A few weeks later I was playing a set at The 331 Club in northeast. It was just me and my acoustic guitar. The front tables were mostly filled with my male musician friends, including Jerred who plays and sings with Elliott Smith-like timbre. All of the ladies were sitting in the back booths chattering away and paying me little mind. I was thinking to myself, ‘how do I get these women to engage with the music?’ The answer was simple. Video Games! I began playing the song and saw some heads in the back of the room turn toward the stage. By the time I finished there were five woman standing up by the stage. The song ended to a warm applause and I have been playing it ever since.

Teague Alexy at 20th Annual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival: A Smashing Success!

Teague Alexy had a memorable week at The 20th Annual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival concluding with the smashing of a ceremonial guitar as his band brought the twentieth annual Festival to a close.

Teague, alongside Erik Berry and Ryan Young, kicked off the opening Sunday of DHGMF 2018 with an all-ages set outside Great Lakes Aquarium on the banks of Lake Superior before later headlining the opening ceremony Sunday night inside Hoops Brewing Company. The trio mixed Teague’s originals with a heavy dose of the Irish traditionals from the new Teague Alexy and Erik Berry album Irish American.

On Monday night, Teague, accompanied by only his own snapping fingers and clapping hands, debuted a new song ‘Rock Bottom’  at the annual Duluth Homegrown Poetry Showcase.

On Tuesday evening, Teague sat in on harmonica with two different bands at Grandma’s Sports Garden. First, Teague joined Woodblind for “Doobie Dubla” and took over lead vocals for Woodblind’s rendition of Teague’s “Working Man Song.” Later, Teague came back on stage to join Black River Revue on their rendition of the Johnny Cash song “Cocaine Blues.”

Wednesday morning Teague and surprise guest Ian Alexy joined Actual Wolf’s annual Homegrown morning residency at Duluth Coffee. The unplugged set went for over two hours mixing Hobo Nephews originals, Teague’s songs from his album Circuit Sessions (produced by Actual Wolf), and rousing versions of Actual Wolf’s “Thinking of You,” Ian’s new song “21st Century Troubadour” and a cover of Erik Koskinen’s “Six Pack of Beer and a Pack of Cigarettes.”

On Thursday, Ian and Teague Alexy joined up for a surprise Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank afternoon set at Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake.

Teague didn’t play Friday or Saturday night, but he was out and about passing around a broken acoustic guitar with the Homegrown chicken logo on the front and having it signed by musicians, fans, bartenders, food truck vendors, bouncers and anyone else who played a part in the 20th Annual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival.

Sunday at Canal Park Brewery, Teague Alexy Band took the stage as the last act of the eight day festival. Tyler (T-Dub) Dubla on drums, Brian (B-Wells) Wells on bass and Marc Gartman on banjo backed Teague through an all-original set in front of a packed house. “Quarter To Four” was the last song. Teague eventually put down his guitar and leaned into his distorted mic for a five minute harmonica solo before picking up the ceremonial chicken guitar. Teague kissed the guitar, held it high above his head and danced around for a few moments before slamming the ceremonial chicken guitar into the floor with a loud crash and leaving splinters all over the stage. Twenty years of Duluth Homegrown Music Festival was over. A smashing success!
