Duluth ska duo Woodblind is releasing a new version of Teague Alexy's Working Man's Song as one side of their debut 7 inch record. "It always was a ska song," says Teague. "It just took me fifteen years to hear it."
Working Man's Song was one of the first songs Teague Alexy wrote on guitar. Though the sing-along chorus made it a fan favorite at Teague Alexy with Medication shows in the early 2000's, Teague had not performed the song live in over a decade. When ska duo Woodblind noticed Teague in the crowd at one of their shows this summer, they broke into their own jump-up ska version of Working Man's Song. Within a week Teague joined Woodblind in the studio to record the new version.
Teague handles the lead vocal while Jason Wussow and Veikko Lepisto of Woodblind provide contagious energy in the form of upright bass, guitar, background vocals and a healthy dose of 'ska box'.
Teague Alexy Band and Woodblind perform at Harriet Brewing in Minneapolis Saturday, January 24 at 7 pm. http://www.harrietbrewing.com
Woodblind's debut 7 inch Big Voice/Working Man's Song is available at Electric Fetus, CD Baby and ITunes.
