It’s been ten years since Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank released their ambitious third full length album Traveling Show. Recorded in Brooklyn NYC with Ian and Teague Alexy joined by Paul Grill on drums, Traveling Show is the biggest sounding album in the Hobo Nephews catalog. Special guests Marco Benevento, members of Trampled By Turtles and renowned pedal steel player Jon Graboff provide top level instrumentation around the Hobo Nephews trio.

Teague Alexy was deeply immersed in reggae this past July as he played a solo opening set with Matisyahu and Tribal Seeds in Superior, Wisconsin, and two days later sang with ska band Woodblind alongside Kymani Marley, Kabaka Pyramid and more at The 14th Annual Bayfront Reggae & World Music Festival in Duluth, Minnesota.

On Saturday, July 20, Teague made his debut at The Bayfront Reggae & World Music Festival in Duluth, Minnesota when he sat in with ska/rocksteady band Woodblind on their version of Teague’s “Workingman Song.” For video of the performance check out Teague’s IG page.

“Reggae inspired me to start playing guitar,” Teague said. “Reggae showed me the power that spirituality can have in music. I’ve learned so much from reggae and I’m always grateful when promoters see, ya know, intrinsic common threads and include me in reggae shows. Opening for guys like Ziggy, Matisyahu and seeing their bands up close, behind the scenes. Whew! What an education, man. I’ve been fortunate to be accepted by different music communities, cause, ya know, I take it all in. But, reggae is international. And, the reggae community including me proves it’s lack of discrimination etcetera because I’m not Jamaican, I chopped my dreads years ago and my music is not reggae. But, I carry plenty of reggae with me. So, yeah, it’s always an honor.”

Teague was so inspired by his reggae weekend he put together a Spotify playlist titled Teague’s Reggae Mixtape. Almost two hundred reggae songs and counting including Teague’s own “Don’t Go” from Circuit Sessions and the “Workingman Song” collaboration with Woodblind.

Take This Town - Streaming & Digital Single

Take This Town, a song by Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank on Spotify

APPLE MUSIC / SPOTIFY / BANDCAMP

Consider It Correspondence and Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank have released “Take This Town” as a digital single. “Take This Town” was originally released  as part of the Hobo Nephews 2015 album American Shuffle

“Take This Town” is a rambling tale of realization, romance and desperation written by Teague Alexy and accentuated by Hobo Nephews rollicking Americana energy.

“Said I ran a few tolls, couple red lights.

They got my picture on satellite.

Tonight will be fond farewell,

Fore I’m off along the hard luck trail”

The hilarious “Take This Town” video was directed by Truvio and features Hobo Nephews alongside Albert Einstein and Al Capone among others.

“From the first cigar of Al Capone,

To the last cigarette of Sherlock Holmes.

Cops and robbers, friends and lovers,

From one end of Babylon to the other.”

“Take This Town” is available wherever digital  music is sold. American Shuffle vinyl available in our web store.

Teague Alexy debuted a new guitar and some new original material during an opening set for renowned singer/songwriter Haley Bonar at historic Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, MN.

”It’s a two-string cigar box style guitar built by Dave Lynas up on the hillside,” Teague told KUMD 103.3 Duluth after the show. “I met Dave at a jam session out in Holyoke and he invited me to come to his house in Duluth and try some of these strange guitars he was building. I didn’t know what to think of this one when I saw it, but I fell in love as soon as I put my hands on it. Even though I didn’t know how to play it, I could feel songs inside.”

Teague Alexy debuts new backing band Common Thread with October shows in Duluth and Minneapolis..

“I’ve been playing with these Duluth guys off and on and in different combinations for a few years,” says Teague. “They are getting so good, we had to give them a name.”

Teague Alexy & Common Thread will be playing Pizza Luce in Duluth, Minnesota on Friday, October 5 and Aster Cafe in Minneapolis Saturday, October 6.

Teague Alexy is probably best known for his Americana songwriting in the nationally-touring brothers duo Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank. Or, maybe you remember 2004 when Teague Alexy with Medication was filling dance floors around Minnesota, or you’ve heard that Teague is an award-winning author, or that he grew up in a South Jersey rap band.

Since Hobo Nephews 2015 album American Shuffle, Teague has extended his New Folklore album into an illustrated book called The New Folklore: Lyrical Tales for Dreamers & Thinkers with corresponding new music, created his storytelling podcast/column Wisecracks & Roadside Flats, released his Circuit Sessions album with Minnesota super-producers Actual Wolf and Steve Garrington (Low), and an album of primarily Irish traditional songs called Irish American with Trampled By Turtles mandolinist Erik Berry.

“All these excursions and side projects were advanced classes in my own travelling /singer/songwriter university,” says Teague with a smile. “I’m back to writing lots of songs and rocking with a Duluth band now.”
